Robert Fulford won the Colchester Open Weekend
[<<] [>>] by Robert Fulford
24-25 Apr
2004 (AC)
For the second year in a row the tournament had a very strong entry at the top end including four of the Mac team Fulford, Clarke, Mulliner and Avery plus world number 6 John Gibbons. Robert Fulford won the all play all block we managed within the flexible Swiss event. The rest of the field didn't let the top five have it all our own way, Lewis Palmer beat Stephen Mulliner in round one and Debbie Cornelius had a good win over Chris Clarke.
Paul Stephenson embarrassed the manager by finishing on 4/4. Having been allowed the misery of watching Ipswich Town lose on Saturday, Paul didn't have much chance of reaching the 7 game minimum required to win the event, but slipped in a couple of quick wins at the end when most of the stars had gone home.
An honourable mention also goes to Colin Hemming for winning the best handicap result prize and a handicap reduction to 3.5.
Thanks to everyone at Colchester.
