Reg Bamford won the Championships of Jersey

[<<] [>>] by Kevin Garrad
5th August 2004 (AC - Championships)

The 13th Championships of Jersey were played in gorgeous weather (plenty of sunshine; hardly a spot of rain) on near perfect (flat, green, fast, smooth) lawns. The lawns have been described (by Reg Bamford no less) as four of the best courts in the world! I am sure that all the players agreed.

Well managed by Cliff Jones, the players were kept busy with both a hectic playing schedule (as many games as all wanted) and an excellent social schedule.

Many thanks to all at Jersey Croquet Club, for the friendliness and catering, and to the States of Jersey for the superb lawns.

It is one of today's great mysteries why more players, of all abilities, don't avail themselves of this championship. Great lawns; superb weather; pleasant company; good food; what more could you ask for?! Try it next year!

Predictably, Reg met Matt in the final of the championship, and triumphed despite losing the first game of 5, finishing with a sextuple.
