Ramsgate welcomed a full house to their early September B-level Advanced Tournament. The distance many of the players had travelled to play on their excellent lawns was impressive. Sidmouth, Bowden, Hunstanton and Belgium were just a few of the clubs represented.
The weather promised to be kind and indeed, apart from some low cloud on the first morning, playing conditions were most enjoyable.
The event was played on a 6-round progressive Swiss with 2.5 hour time limits. A format that worked very well until the final round when a well known star of the B circuit (anon) decided to get into gear when time was called and was still playing as dusk descended! Mobile phones were switched on and people could be overheard trying to explain to their partners why they might be home after midnight!!
The tournament was won by Martin Leach from Ipswich with Paul Miles a worthy runner up.
Dennis Shaw's management of the tournament was up to his usual high standard and the club members gave us all a very warm welcome.
This was my first visit to Ramsgate but it certainly will not be my last.
