Ed Dolphin won the Connaught Cup

11th July 2022 (AC)

The tournament being a 3 day event and having only ten entrants was perforce run as a Swiss.

Conditions were challenging with occasional light showers and a strong, cold wind blowing off the sea. These conditions moderated on the final day most of which was played in sunshine.

At the end of the first day one player was taken ill and was unable to continue, an even number of players being required, the manager (Peter Nelson) stepped in and played the final two days as a "wild card".

All players were scheduled to play six games. After five rounds, three players Philip Harris, Ed Dolphin and Andrew Thomas were tied on four wins with each having defeated the opponent who in turn had defeated them. The same situation pertained after the final round. As two of the contenders had played the player who retired after day one, determination by "Quality of Wins" would have been unfair. The result was therfore determined on hoops run with Ed Dolphin (150 hoops) being declared the winner followed by Andrew Thomas (147) and Philip Harris (146).
